Mono Consultants have applied for planning permission to increase the height of the Vodafone mobile phone mast on Mount Road, Kidsgrove to 17.5m from the current 14.4m.
This increase in height will actually see a new mast and 2 smaller cabinet installed at the location, with the existing mast being removed. It is believed that the proposed development will enable site sharing to take place between Vodafone and O2, improving 2G, 3G and will also bring 4G to the area when it is brought to the area.
Assuming this planning application is approved it would be fair to assume that some areas of Kidsgrove which currently suffer from poor or no coverage from these operators could see an increase in the speeds and quality of service that is offered to them. It should be noted that this will only be the first in what will be a number of sites that will have to be upgraded as part of the drive for mobile operators to bring improved coverage and new technologies to the area.
