Maryhill High School Requires Improvement

maryhill high schoolMaryhill High School in Kidsgrove has been judged by Ofsted as “requiring improvement” at their most recent inspection which took place on the 7th and 8th March.

The Ofsted report claims that Maryhill High School requires improvement and lists some of the following for areas that the school needs to address;

  • Teachers expectations of what students can do, particularly the more able, are not always high enough.
  • It is not always clear to all pupils what their next targets are in order to improve their work.
  • The sixth form requires improvement because, given their level of achievement on entry into the sixth form, not enough students achieve the top grades at AS and A level compared to the national average.
  • The schools leadership are not yet moving swiftly enough to target areas of underachievement.

This latest inspection of Maryhill High School sees it fall from its previous “good” status with only the “behaviour and safety of pupils” classed in this category in this report. The school will now be inspected again within 2 years and will need to act on the areas for development for it to achieve a “good” grade overall.
