Brennans Pub to Re-open in Kidsgrove

brennans pub kidsgroveBrennans public house on Kidsgrove Bank is to re-open as a pub again after many Kidsgrove residents had suspected that it had served its last pint. Brennans which was once known as the Crown and Thistle shut some years ago and was sold to a property development company. The proposals at the time were to see the Kidsgrove pub become 3 houses, however following this company entering administration the Kidsgrove pub has been bought by a local pub chain who intend on opening Brennans once again.

Calmore Taverns purchased Brennans for around £87,000 and is spending about £150,000 on the refurbishment, with the aim of opening the Kidsgrove venue in November. It appears that becoming a community pub is the focus of the new owners and they will not be serving food at this current point in time.

It appears to be good news that Brennans will be reopening in Kidsgrove, as had been reported online in our Forum many months ago. Clearly the news of the pub re-opening will not please everyone, as some local residents were still under the impression that the building would be turned into houses. Some councillors could have some difficult decisions on which side of the fence to sit on, given some past comments on the future use of the venue.

I am very pleased that it is to be re-opened, I was I barmaid there for several years during my student days in the 1980s and knew Jean and Gerry, Chris and Jill really well. I passed though Kidsgrove a year ago, and stopped by the boarded up pub and said a prayer or two for the family. I wish the new owners much luck and send my love to the old locals xxxx

I can't wait to see it in all it's former glory. I remember it as the Crown and Thistle, walking passed on my way to the shops and smelling the ale aromas coming from the cellar......... ... We will be popping in and having a looksee.

Great news, I bet Gerry would have been well pleased god rest his soul. Glad it’s not doing food. There is a lack of decent pubs in the surrounding area anyway- can’t understand how the comment “ so much competition” is justified. What completion is that then? nearly all the pubs around here are now shut. I’ll be there for the opening along with many of the regulars from the 80’s & 90’s, see you there!

Unless this is going to sell foo I can't see how it can be successful, it has so much competition and doesn't even have a car park,

Fantastic news. Brilliant. I am so looking forward to it coming alive again. there are far too many businesses within the area folding. It will be good news for everyone to have a new venture in the area. Perhaps it may encourage folk to get out of their homes and meet and talk to new folk. Love it. Cant wait. xxxx
