Creative youngsters in Kidsgrove will be celebrated for their artistic skills in the Newcastle in Bloom painting competition. The Britain in Bloom competition run by Newcastle-Borough-Council saw 22 primary, secondary and specialist schools from all over the borough enter, however some of the best art work came from students at schools in Kidsgrove.
Abi Bayes, aged five from St. Saviours Primary School in Talke was the overall winner in the under-10 category. This is a remarkable achievement and something that we are sure she is exceptionally proud of. Her design comprised of the Olympic torch with blooms representing flames.
A total of 51 prize winning artists will receive certificates and vouchers from Newcastle Mayor David Becket at an awards ceremony at Keele University on Wednesday, 13 June.
The theme of this year’s competition was “Budding Olympians” with interpretations included sprinting flowers and floral Olympic rings. Some of the examples of awarded work from the Kidsgrove schools is shown below.
